Letterman versus McCain on Palin
Here’s the full Late Night Show interview (referenced in a previous post) where Hoosier and erstwhile tire swinger David Letterman gives McCain what-for:
As you probably know, it has been confirmed that Palin will be on Saturday Night Live this Saturday.
I just can’t get too excited about it. It isn’t like any tough questions are going to be posed to her and I just don’t think that she is an interesting enough character to really be funny.
I really want Sarah to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman. Dave did a great job of interviewing McCain last night, and McCain did an equally great job of palining on many of the questions.
I love McCain’s expression when David asks about Gordon Liddy.
Jon Friedman on the Wall Street Journal’s, Market Watch has picked Sarah’s new career.
The news networks are desperately looking for a gimmick that would give one an edge over the others.
Palin would be a natural as an anchor or commentator, and I write that respectfully.
…
As they say in sports, she has all the tools. On the stump she has proven to be vivacious, lively and charismatic and, with a large group of Americans, wildly popular. Plus, she’ll need a friendly outlet to plug her inevitable campaign memoir.
As long as she only reads copy she would be fine as an anchor but there would be too much palining if she went off script. A commentator is a much better fit. I see her as a Bill O’Reilly yes woman.

Europe is catching onto Palin’s palining.
Europe mocks ‘half-baked Alaskan’ Palin.
For Europeans, who were alienated during George W. Bush’s first four years by a president who showed little interest in their continent and patently cared nothing for the opinions of its leaders, the turning point probably came with the appearance on the Katie Couric show when Palin confessed to not having had a passport until 2006.
Europeans are appalled at the thought that someone who wants to be vice president of the most powerful nation on earth had so little interest in the rest of a world which is so vitally affected by the decisions of the man, or woman, in the White House.
full disclosure, I did not have a passport until 2002, but I am not running for a national political office either.
At least he doesn’t have a license.
“He said the business consists of owner Al Newell and him. Wurzelbacher said he’s worked there for six years and that the two have talked about his taking it over at some point.
…
In Toledo on Sunday, Wurzelbacher told Obama that he was preparing to buy the plumbing company, which earns more than $250,000 a year…”
I think I need to become a plumber.
Post-Troopergate Palining [breaking it down edition]
Here is a clip of Sarah Palin palining (see second definition) during an interview with the Pittsburgh CBS affiliate:
Palin palins multiple times in this interview. She declares that:
The report that came out also was very clear in that there was no unlawful or unethical behavior on my part.
Of course, the aforementioned Branchflower Report says exactly the opposite. Indeed, if Governor Palin read the report, then it is shocking she’d come to any other conclusion, since in Finding Number 1, Branchflower states very clearly that:
I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused here power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.
The verbiage is very clear and Branchflower chose not to bury this finding, but to make it the opening sentence of the substantive portion of his report to the Alaskan Legistature.
She lies or shades the truth twice more in the clip. She states that Trooper Wooten:

Two young Alaskans demonstrate how not to palin an impromptu interview:
This video is chock full of wonderful insights and quotes about Sarah Palin’s Alaska, though my favorite is:
She made Wasilla the armpit of Alaska.
Palin reprimands her hecklers….. ummm, I mean supporters.
Sarah is getting pretty good at dealing with hecklers, even when they are her own supporters yelling “louder”.
She must still be dealing with the crowd’s reaction at the Flyers puck drop.
I’m really starting to think that maybe she has a reading comprehension thing going on, or that she thinks maybe if she palins over and over again it will become true.
update: Scott Bateman’s take on this video at Salon.
Christopher Hitchens Calls Palin on palining
Even Christopher Hitchens is calling Palin onto the carpet for her palining. In a recent column for Slate.com, Hitchens notes that Palin is “utterly unversed in any of the needful political discourses but easily trained to utter preposterous lies and to appeal to the basest element of her audience.” A fine definition of palining!
The Make Palin a Verb! Facebook group–where this movement started–surpassed 1,000 members today. That’s excellent growth for a passing status update posted only 12 days ago.
Not to rest on our laurels, we hope to get to 5,000 members by Election Day. If you are reading this and haven’t joined the MPAV! FB group, then click on the link above and join. If you have, then post the group to your profile, so other like-minded–but unfortunately unaware–individuals can join the MPAV! movement.
As you probably know by now, the Alaskan legislative panel has found that Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her power as governor by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired.
We all knew that was probably going to be the case and we also knew that the McCain/Palin campaign and the Republican party pundits will/would try to blame the ruling on “liberal bias” or put some sort of palined spin on it.
The thing that really bugs me about the whole thing is the word “troopergate”. Why is it that the media has to add the word gate to whatever political scandal du jour since Watergate? It just make no sense to me. Can’t they think of some original word?
Add your suggestions in the comments.

Poor Sarah. Can her beauty queen smiles and waves under such adversity be considered palining?
I especially like the Obama/Biden signs and thumbs down behind her.
